C.J. Yu is the VP of Chemistry at Blue Earth Labs. Dr. Yu is an experienced entrepreneur with extensive experiences in both industrial and academic settings. In addition to the current position at Blue Earth Labs, Dr. Yu has been a visiting faculty member at the Department of Environmental Engineering, the Department of Chemistry, and the Department of Biology at the California Institute of Technology in Pasadena, California since 1999.
In the past 20 years, Dr. Yu has been involved in five startup technology companies that covered genomic diagnostics, drug delivery, human eye diagnostic and treatments, environmental bioaugmentation for the wastewater treatment, and nanao materials for water purifications. Among these companies, Clinical Micro Sensors Inc., a genomic detection company, was successfully acquired by Motorola, Inc. for $300 million after four years of operation. Dr. Yu served as Director of Chemistry at Motorola, Inc., supervising three research groups and two production teams for two years. Dr. Yu holds a MS in Organic Chemistry from the Chinese Academy of Science in Beijing, China, a PhD in Organic Chemistry from Marquette University (Milwaukee, WI), postdoctoral training at University of Illinois (Urbana, IL), and a MBA from Pepperdine University (Malibu, CA).
Dr. Yu has authored and published more than 20 scientific papers and articles in leading scientific journals and recently published a book chapter. Furthermore, Dr. Yu has more than 50 US patents issued and pending in addition to numerous foreign patents.
